Armstrong Flo-Trex Valves and Suction Guides are multi-function pump fittings for Armstrong commercial pumps. They are available in cast iron or ductile iron and with grooved, flanged, or threaded connections. When used together, Flo-Trex Valves and Suction Guides can eliminate up to nine different components from a pump system installation.
On base-mounted single or double suction pump installations and vertical in-line installations, FTVs and Suction Guides remove the need for a y-strainer, suction long radius elbow, discharge long radius elbow, discharge check valve, discharge globe valve, and suction spool piece. Additionally, FTV-G style valves eliminate three welded flange connections.
On vertical in-line pumps installations, flexible connectors, the inertia base isolation, and the field shaft alignment are eliminated using FTVs and Suction Guides.
Flo-Trex Valves (FTVs)
Designed for installation on the discharge side of centrifugal pumps, Armstrong Flo-Trex Valves act as a shut-off valve, non-slam check valve, flow throttling valve, and 90° elbow. They protect pumps from damage and keep them operating at peak efficiency.
Key Features
- Drip-Tight Shut-Off: Designed and tested for isolation at 150% of maximum working pressure.
- Non-Slam: By incorporating a spring closure, FTVs are highly controlled and non-slam.
- Flow-Throttling: FTVs combine flow throttling and isolation with a plug and disc design.
- Convertible Body: Sizes 2-1/2" and up can be changed from straight to angle configuration on-site.

Suction Guides (SGs)
Installed on the suction side of pumps, Armstrong Suction Guides have a versatile multi-function design that saves space (up to 20% compared to traditional piping) and installation costs while protecting against debris and foreign matter damage as well as optimizing flow efficiency.
Key Features
- 90° Elbow: Suction Guides eliminate the need for the 90° elbow and can be rotated in any position allowed by the pump suction bolts.
- In-Line Strainer: Stainless steel with a free area of at least 250% of sectional pipe area and disposable fine mesh start-up strainer.
- Reducing Elbow: Connect to inlet piping up to one size larger than the pump suction.
- Guide Vanes: Flow stabilizing vanes on the outlet.
