NIBCO offers a complete line of check valves to prevent backflow, including the NIBCO Ring Check valve with a self-closing disc, horizontal swing, sliding disc, silent check, and Y-pattern. NIBCO check valves prevent backflow by automatically closing when fluid reverses direction.
NIBCO Wafer Check Valves
Wafer check valves get their name from their wafer-thin design, which allows them to be fitted in extremely tight spaces where other types of check valves can not be used. In addition, the small size of the valve enables it to be set between a set of flanges.
There are no controls on a wafer valve. Instead, the main component of the valve is a swinging disc in the center that opens in one direction and closes if liquid flows back in the other direction.
The design of a wafer check valve is unlikely to clog, making them ideal for use in systems containing solid particles or debris. Wafer valves can be mounted vertically or horizontally, as long as the back pressure required to seat the check valve is sufficient. Mechanisms are available to help provide assist valves in case back pressure is insufficient.

NIBCO Swing Check Valves
Swing check valves utilize a disc and a hinge which are suspended from the top of the unit using a hinge pin. As material passes through the valve, the disk remains parallel with the flow, keeping the valve open. However, when reverse flow occurs, the disc moves down perpendicular to the flow of material, which results in the valve closing.
Swing check valves are designed to be self-activating, meaning they allow and stop the flow of materials without user interference. In addition, the design of a swing check valve allows for full flow of materials as the molded body of the valve is shaped with room for the disc to swing open completely. This makes swing check valves ideal when a full port valve is required.
They are available in two common shapes: straight or Y-shaped. Either can be advantageous, depending on the application. Although swing check valves are ideal for some applications, they are being phased out due to recurring problems, such as turbulent flow and water hammer.

NIBCO Silent Check Valves
Silent check valves are an updated design of swing check valves. The disc in the valve is held in place by a spring, which centers the movement of the disc. This allows for smoother fluid flow and responsive opening and closing without the sudden movements that cause water hammer. In addition, NIBCO silent check valves reduce noise for quiet operation. Silent check valves may be installed in horizontal positions (or vertical with flow moving up).

NIBCO CPVC Check Valves
Chemtrol True Union ball-check valves from NIBCO stop the flow of media in one direction while allowing flow in the opposite direction. As a result, they provide minimum turbulence and chatter while maintaining pump prime. Injection-molded CPVC construction with an EPDM O-ring is ideal for systems with hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, chemical processing, industrial plating, deionized water lines, chemical drainage, wastewater treatment systems, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC.
The “True Union” design allows the valve and its operational components to be lifted from the piping system for repair or replacement. In addition, the valve can be joined with flanged end connections. Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 thermoplastics demonstrate excellent mechanical strength over a broad temperature range, outstanding underground performance, and superior hydraulics. NIBCO Chemtrol Corzan CPVC check valves are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit, or corrode.

NIBCO Stop-Check Valves
A stop-check valve is a check valve with override control to stop flow regardless of flow direction or pressure. NIBCO cast iron automatic steam stop-check angle valves are designed for steam systems with boilers installed in tandem. The steam stop-check design prevents boiler flooding by automatically closing when steam and condensate begin to back up. These valves are also used to isolate boilers in a steam system. They have flanged end connections for ease of installation and features s renewable seat and disc. The bolted bonnet makes the valve convenient to maintain.

NIBCO Grooved Check Valves
NIBCO grooved check valves are typically used for fire protection applications. They are spring-actuated and drilled and tapped for a ball drip outlet. They also feature a renewable disc, bronze seat, and EPDM seat disc.

NIBCO Lift Check Valves
A lift-check valve is a check valve in which the disc, sometimes called a lift, can be lifted off its seat by higher pressure of inlet or upstream fluid to allow flow to the outlet or downstream side. A guide keeps the motion of the disc on a vertical line, so the valve can later reseat properly. When the pressure is no longer higher, gravity or higher downstream pressure will cause the disc to lower onto its seat, shutting the valve to stop reverse flow.
NIBCO Ring Check in-line lift check valves feature a unique in-line, spring-assisted self-closing disc. The lift check valve prevents backflow by automatically closing when fluid reverses direction. With a PTFE disc, the check valve is recommended for steam service. NIBCO Ring Check valves have threaded end connections for ease of installation and may be installed in horizontal positions or vertical with flow moving up.
