A pressure relief valve is a type of safety valve designed to automatically release pressure when it exceeds a predetermined level, preventing potential damage or catastrophic failure.
High-Capacity Protection for Hot Water Heating Systems
Relief valves are designed to help protect fired and unfired hot water vessels from unsafe operating pressures. Engineered in accordance with Section IV of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, these valves are built for heating boiler applications and feature capacities certified by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.
These valves offer some of the highest BTUH ratings available in their class, with capacities ranging from 790,000 to 5,999,000 BTUH. Their diaphragm-operated and diaphragm-assisted designs provide a larger effective operating area than conventional “pop-type” relief valves, helping improve performance in systems where fouling may occur.
Cast iron models use an EPDM diaphragm-operated design, while bronze models feature a diaphragm-assisted design. With an effective area approximately five times greater than traditional relief valves, they are designed to provide reliable pressure relief and long-lasting system protection.
The low differential between opening and closing pressures helps reduce the risk of system water flashing to steam, which can help prevent hammering and support safer system operation.
