ASME Hydronic Tanks Combining Buffer Tank, Air Separator, and Dirt Separator Functions
Taco Multi-Purpose Tanks, also known as MPT tanks, are designed to combine several important hydronic system functions into one customizable tank solution. The MPT product line incorporates features from Taco’s buffer tank, 5900 separator, and air/dirt separator designs, helping support system volume control, air removal, dirt separation, and efficient hydronic system operation.
Designed for commercial HVAC, hydronic heating, chilled water, and mechanical room applications, Taco Multi-Purpose Tanks help simplify system design by reducing the need for multiple separate components. Their multi-function design can help save space, improve piping layouts, and provide a more flexible solution for projects where buffering, separation, and system stability are all important.
Taco MPT tanks are available in sizes from 50 to 1,050 gallons, with standard flange sizes from 2" to 12" and standard diameters from 20" to 60". They are available in 180-degree or 90-degree nozzle configurations, including space-saving layouts for mechanical rooms with limited available space. Pall ring configurations are also available to enhance air and dirt separation performance.
Each Taco Multi-Purpose Tank includes an integral air vent, full-port blowdown valve, insulation options, and a standard 3/4" sensing port. Optional sensing ports are available on each nozzle, making the MPT one of Taco’s most customizable standard tank models.
Taco Multi-Purpose Tanks are designed, constructed, and tested to ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements. Standard construction is carbon steel, with stainless steel options available for selected applications. Computerized product selection helps match the tank configuration to the project’s performance and design requirements.
