CPVC Valves

What is CPVC?

CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) is a durable, long-lasting, and chemical-resistant building material. CPVC is more resistant to degradation and has an improved lifespan compared to PVC. In addition, the chlorinated PVC in CPVC valves allows them to withstand higher temperatures. CPVC has a maximum operating temperature of 200°F. These characteristics make it useful in commercial and industrial settings, where chemicals and high temperatures are more likely to be present.

The Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 thermoplastic used in some CPVC valves demonstrates excellent mechanical strength over a broad temperature range, outstanding underground performance, and superior hydraulics.

CPVC will not rust, pit, scale, or corrode. CPVC valves are easy to install and are joined by solvent cementing or threading.

CPVC Valve Application

CPVC valves are ideal for a variety of applications, including:

  • Water and wastewater treatment plants
  • Chemical plants and processing
  • Marine and corrosive environments
  • Pools and aquariums
  • Other industrial applications that require high temperature resistance

CPVC Valve Types

CPVC Ball Valves

NIBCO CPVC Ball Valves

CPVC ball valves from NIBCO feature a one-piece molded CPVC body and female socket connections. Ball valves have low-pressure drops and conveniently open and close quickly with a quarter-turn.

CPVC Schedule 80 Tru-Bloc True Union ball valves have a self-adjusting seat and upstream and downstream blocking capability to stop flow. The valve’s injection-molded CPVC construction with EPDM O-ring is ideal for use in industrial systems. In addition, the valve’s operational components can be conveniently lifted from the piping system for repair or replacement, thanks to the original Chemtrol True Union design. Tru-Bloc advances the True Union concept with the self-adjusting energizer O-ring.

NIBCO also offers a Chemtrol True Union three-way, three-position multi-port ball valve ideal for applications where flow diversion and on/off control are needed. It can divert flow from either side-run inlet port to the branch center inlet port. Its full port design produces minimum flow restriction with the lowest possible pressure drop for 90° porting.

CPVC Check Valves

NIBCO CPVC Check Valve

Chemtrol True Union ball check valves from NIBCO stop the flow of media in one direction while allowing flow in the opposite direction, with minimum turbulence and chatter while maintaining pump prime. Their injection-molded CPVC construction with EPDM O-ring is ideal for systems for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, chemical processing, industrial plating, deionized water lines, chemical drainage, wastewater treatment systems, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC.

CPVC Butterfly Valves

NIBCO CPVC Butterfly Valve

CPVC butterfly valves from NIBCO are wafer-style valves with low flow restrictions. The valves’ injection-molded CPVC construction with an EPDM seat is ideal for use in chemical applications. The disc and stem sheath is molded over a 316 stainless steel hex shaft to make a one-piece assembly. With this unique dry shaft seal, liquid never contacts the shaft, even at maximum pressure. The leak-proof design incorporates vulcanized bushings and double O-ring seals. They are easy to install but cannot be used as an isolation valve.

CPVC Stop & Waste Valves

CPVC Stop & Waste Valve

CPVC stop and waste valves are typically installed in applications requiring shut-off. If the line they control needs to be drained when the flow is shut off, they may include an auxiliary opening on their side, just past the valve seat. A cap screw controls this opening. When the valve is closed, the cap may be opened to drain the water out of the non-pressure side of the line beyond that point. The valve must be mounted on the low end of the run for the pipe to drain correctly.
