Before the start of COVID-19 Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) wasn't as important as it is today. Two factors leading to the spread of COVID-19 indoors is the transfer of the virus through surfaces and objects, and the transmission through air. Subsequently, parents and students are worrying about the IAQ of college campuses. In fact, a recent survey by HVAC informed found "42 percent of parents noted that their sentiment toward campus cleanliness and indoor air quality increased, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Breathing air free of pollutants leads to a higher quality of life, lowered risk of respiratory illness, and can even lead to higher test scores among students.
HVAC facilities can affect the transmission of COVID-19 by increasing ventilation and killing germs. Increasing the introduction of outdoor air can be achieved by retrofitting a system with operational flexibility; allowing the facility to switch between minimum outside air to all outside air as needed.
