Grundfos ALPHA1 High Efficiency ECM Variable Speed Circulator Pumps are electronically controlled wet-rotor circulators designed for hydronic heating, cooling, and HVAC applications requiring efficient circulation and external speed control. The ALPHA1 combines a permanent-magnet ECM motor with an integrated frequency converter, providing an energy-efficient alternative to conventional fixed-speed circulators.
The Grundfos ALPHA1 is designed for circulating liquids in larger heating and cooling circuits. Unlike internally controlled circulators that automatically select their own operating mode, the ALPHA1 is designed to receive a low-voltage 0-10 VDC control signal from an external system controller. This allows pump speed to be coordinated with compatible boilers, HVAC controllers, and building management systems.
The 0-10V input provides flexible variable-speed control based on system requirements. As the external control signal changes, pump speed can be adjusted to match changing heating or cooling demand. If the control signal is absent or fails, the ALPHA1 operates at maximum speed, helping maintain circulation.
Grundfos also equips the ALPHA1 26-99 with an alarm output signal for integration with compatible system controls. Its magnetite-resistant construction, ceramic shaft, stainless steel bearing plate, and high starting torque are designed to support dependable operation in hydronic systems where iron oxide, sediment, and other system contaminants can create challenges for circulator pumps.
The ALPHA1 uses a canned-rotor design in which the pump and motor form an integrated unit without a conventional shaft seal, and the bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid. This compact construction, combined with ECM technology and external variable-speed control, makes the Grundfos ALPHA1 particularly useful for modern hydronic systems requiring direct pump control from boilers or building automation equipment.
