Grundfos Separators are designed to help protect hydronic heating and cooling systems by removing unwanted air, dirt, sediment, and suspended solids from circulating water. The Grundfos separator range includes dynamic separators and hydronic air and dirt separator solutions. Dynamic separators use centrifugal movement to remove suspended solids from water. Grundfos describes its DSA dynamic separator as having a removal capacity of 98% of particles larger than 80 microns and heavier than 1 kg/dm³, making it useful for applications where suspended solids need to be separated from circulating water before they damage equipment or reduce system performance.

In hydronic systems, air and dirt separation is important because dirt particles can erode pump impellers, mechanical seals, valve seats, valve mechanisms, piping, and other system components.
